Earlier this month, The Toa Nafasi Project participated in #GivingTuesdayNow, an emergency response launched by GivingTuesday to “the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19 [which] brought millions of people together to express their generosity through acts of kindness, donations of goods, time and money, notes of compassion, advocacy for causes, and care for family and friends.”

While we did not quite reach our goal, we did raise enough funds to continue to support our tutoring staff during the pandemic which has shuttered schools in Tanzania since mid-March.

As most readers know, these tutors, 30 Tanzanian women, were formerly underemployed but are now committed to working with The Project and assisting primary students with learning difficulties in the public school system.

The donations we raised on #GivingTuesdayNow will help preserve their jobs while schools remain closed and allow Toa Nafasi to further invest in their professional development during this “great pause.”

So, here we are, still at home, but with grateful hearts thanking our donors for their generosity during a time when it’s easy to be selfish.

May you all be well and stay safe, and should you be moved to donate to Toa at any time, please know that no amount is too small and that any and all gifts are appreciated and will be put to good use.
